Status Update!

Yeah, haven’t made a post in awhile. I’m certainly not dead, so don’t worry. My little webcomic project is slowly coming into shape. In truth, I’m a bit scared to pull the trigger on it, if only because once I start, I’ll be forcing myself to stick to an update schedule that I have no idea if I can keep or not (I guess this is why various sites tell you to build a buffer). I’m slowly learning stuff, such as “Even if you’re only doing a black and white strip, it’s better to actually fill the blacks in on the computer rather than drawing it out beforehand”. This particular discovery will probably convince me to do at least spot colors in various places in the strips. I’ll make a post here once everything is finally up and running so you all can read it.

I also did some work on a new speedrun project, this one for the Sunsoft game Uncle Fester’s Quest. An interesting little game that can best be summed up as “The dungeon scenes from Blaster Master as played by Uncle Fester from The Addams Family.” Great music too, though the game itself has drawn some divided opinions over the years.

And that’s that.

I was a big fan of Fester’s Quest — it was one of the games the Sunsoft Game Time News got me pumped about. Good music, decent gameplay and also liked the graphics.

  1. Hi! i came across you from trying to google a fester’s quest speedrun. just wondering if its finished or how close. i’m a huge fan of blaster master and i do like fester’s quest too. i intend to record a live speedrun of blaster master one of these days. i can do it in less than 40 minutes currently. anyway, glad you’re doing it!

    thanks,
    DrL

Yeah, I like Fester’s Quest myself. Fun gameplay and a typically great Sunsoft soundtrack (As a company, Sunsoft were hit-and-miss overall gamewise, but you pretty much always got a quality soundtrack out of the experience if nothing else).

@DrL: It’s not particularly close to being finished yet, but I am working on it little by little. I don’t really have an ETA on it yet, but the fact that I was working on it last night means it is moving forward (Unlike 99% of the things that I start and wind up not finishing..most notably, my Magic of Scheherazade speedrun started as a run for another game entirely!).

As for Blaster Master, I’d definitely like to see that. Definitely record it and send it into SDA, since the current one is somewhere in the 44-minute range.
